The debate over who should win the 2021 Ballon d’Or prize rolls on and, without a clear favourite unlike in previous years, plenty believe that Karim Benzema should be in with a shout, no less than his national team coach Didier Deschamps.
When asked the question over whether Benzema was a serious candidate, Deschamps was clear.
“Yes, clearly,” Deschamps said in a press conference.
Kylian Mbappe is also seen as a future Ballon d’Or winner, and the French World Cup winning coach is confident that the Paris Saint-Germain will win it at some point in his career too.
“Yes, probably,” Deschamps responded about Mbappe’s chances.
France are set to face Belgium in the Nations League semi-final on October 7, and Benzema has become a regular in the starting line-up for Les Blues.
The relationship between Deschamps and Benzema has been repaired after years of dispute, with the Real Madrid man’s form having becoming impossible to ignore.
