Although Tom Holland’s Spider-Man won’t be appearing in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the film’s director stated that it was possible.

Andy Serkis is taking over Venom after Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), directed the first film. IGN asked Serkis about the appearance of the web-slinger in the series. Although Sony Pictures holds the rights to Spider-Man, and rents him to Marvel Studios, the character is yet to appear in the related Marvel movie universe. Will that change?

Serkis stated that while everyone wants to know when Venom will meet Spider-Man personally, it is not going to happen. “I’m kidding. It will happen. The question is when. It’s not something we want to rush.

The agreement between Sony and Disney that allowed Spider-Man in the MCU was a boost to the efforts of the studios to separate the Marvel characters from their own. Even though Venom received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, it did well at the box-office in 2018. The story will continue this year with Shriek and Carnage. Next year, Jared Leto will debut Morbius. The studio isn’t done there.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will portray Kraven, the Hunter. He is believed to be facing off against the Chameleon. Sony is also expected to release a Spider-Woman movie with Olivia Wilde. Many actors from previous Spider-Man films have joined the MCU. J.K Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson, played by J.K Simmons, arrived at Spider-Man: Far From Home. The trailer for No Way Home featured Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. Jamie Foxx will play Electro again. Rumours also suggest that everyone, from Tobey Maguire to Thomas Hayden Church’s Sandman, is set to appear in this multiverse-spanning movie.

Sony also tried its hand at multiverses with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This gives Holland, Holland’s wall-crawler many options to face Tom Hardy’s Venom. The comics show a deeper connection between the characters, which isn’t possible in the MCU. However, with the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, everything is possible.
